“Several years ago, a talented celebrity photographer friend of mine, Amelia Troubridge, gave me some of her own prints for my birthday. I’d recently purchased my first flat, so like many young people buying their first home, I had exhausted my funds on the boring essentials – a gift of contemporary art was fantastic! Needless to say, my walls were transformed and from Amelia’s wonderful gift, 55Max was born. My idea was simple: surely there were many other people out there like me, for whom buying good art just wasn’t affordable? I wanted maximum style at minimum cost – a maximum of £55 – hence our name!”
