Inject Some Colour Into Your Home
Posted on May 07 2015
Are you stuck in a beige rut? Well fear not as 55MAX are here to help. There's no time like the present to inject some colour into your home. With summer just around the corner, it's the perfect opportunity to get bold with colour. Working bright colours into your decor can add so much to a room - it's a dramatic and playful way to make an impact. Many people tend to shy away from going bold, preferring to play it safe with neutrals and pastels - either way, it's easier than you think to add a bit of colour and transform a room.
There are lots of ways you can add colour into your home and you don't have to go big and bold if you don't want to! You can start small and perhaps give a room a spritz with one wall of colourful wallpaper or you can choose bright furnishings to add around the house, like a canvas or a vase. Once you find a way to start integrating colour though, we guarantee you'll want to go bigger, brighter and bolder! Cooling shades, like blues and greys have a calming influence that can make a room feel more spacious whereas warming reds and oranges are stimulating and great for creating a cosy ambience in a larger room.
Use Contrasting Colours
If you want to make a bold statement with a colour combination that is guaranteed to work you should opt for contrasting colours. These are the colours that are directly opposite each other on the colour wheel, and when used together, reinforce and intensify one another. Blue and orange make a strong statement, even when used in moderation but if you haven't got the confidence to go bold try sky-blue walls with tangerine accents! If blue and orange aren't your thing, then try red and green or purple and yellow!
Go Bold
Bold colours make everything on display feel grander, cooler, and more intense. Go bold and you’ll never go back! If you are worried about how bold to go, offset your bold colour with a palette of neutrals that go with everything. That way it helps temper the bright tone! Integrate it with clean, simple lines in a minimalist room and it will make an impact without being overpowering.
Revamp furnishings
If you are still clinging to neutrals, revamping a piece of furniture is a great way to add some brightness to your home! Why not upholster a chair to give a room the wow factor? Most of us have at least one piece of furniture that we were always meant to dispose of but never got round to - but there's good news as there's always a way to salvage it and turn it into something unique.
Use Wallpaper
Use a funky patterned wallpaper and make a focal point in a room. Creating a feature wall in a room is a great way to experiment with bold colours and prints, without worrying about it looking over the top. Wallpapering one wall provides an opportunity to indulge in lavish design and colours that you wouldn't necessarily want covering an entire room!
Add a Rug
A whole room can be transformed with the right rug! Adding a printed rug has to be one of the easiest ways to add a pop of colour to a room. If you invest in a rug you can then draw colours from it and incorporate those colours in the rest of the room, complementing the rug's shades with accent pillows or furnishings.
